The Bat Station video stream is generated with two pieces of software. Vadeo takes an audio-only internet radio stream and converts it to a video stream that can be sent to a live video streaming server. Owncast is the live streaming server.
The audio stream is is an Icecast internet radio server being served content via custom Liquidsoap scripts.
The Bat Station was created in 2016 as a companion to a Roku and AppleTV internet radio client called The Bat Player. Gabe was having so much fun working with internet radio and supporting others, he wanted to create his own. It's been running 24/7 since then.
If you run an internet radio station and want to appeal to the growing number of people consuming live video streams you can do exactly what The Bat Station is doing by having your own live stream powered by Owncast.
